jospehine astrud lis

Whew, she came in 12 days before her deadline! At least I got one project in on time, eh?? The past eleven days has been such a whirlwind of emotion, thoughtfulness, and reflection. It seems ages ago that I *wasn't* pregnant and that she's been here with us always. Such a funny little thing to create such a huge impact!

See the little photo album we made--> http://www.fourlegsgood.com/josie/announcement/announcement.html

Aww... everyone is so cute!

Do the names have any meaning, family or like, or did you just like them?

Andy decided early on that he'd like our kid to have the same initials as him, A.J.L., so as to have a type of legacy and pass down two monogrammed items. This made things very easy as you have no idea how daunting it is to pore over thousands of names in those ridiculous baby name books at the book store. We'd always liked Brazilian jazz-singer Astrud Gilberto and thought the name was lovely-- tho, we weren't sure about that as a first name (imagine the other kids in school calling the poor girl "ass-lis"). There were other names we liked, but nothing else stuck.

In the fourth month of pregnancy, I had a dream where I saw the little bun was a girl, her name was Josephine, and her favorite color was yellow. Of course, yellow is about my least favorite color. Everyone laughed at my dream and felt that it was certainly a boy because the wives' tale is that you dream the reverse of what gender you're actually going to have. Well, lo and behold, we had our huge sonogram in the fifth month and were told she was a girl. That clinched it for us and we'd been calling her Josie ever since. As well as Josie-fiend and the Outlaw Josie Lis...

She'll still inherit her grandfather's monogrammed WWII zippo lighter. And, Andy's bowling ball. Thankfully, yellow is starting to grow on me...

Of course, you need a picture of 'Josie' surrounded by your kitties. :)

Astrud is a great name. We just named our baby Astrud Berlin (Both names taken from Astrud Gilberto and Irving Berlin - our favorite musician/composer). You can view our site at http://www.darrellmankin.org/astrud.html

Glad to see somebody else picked such a beautiful name. :-)
